This private property near the metropolis Düsseldorf is a perfect example that the functional style “emotional minimalism” not only allows you to live comfortably, but also reflects a mentality that strives for simplicity and convenience.
It was priority to find a balance between too minimalistic, which is often sensed as sterile, and too emotional, and therefore easily chaotic – always following the philosophy “less is more”.
Due to the reduction to the essential aspects, certain core elements become more apparent and unite into a simple, but innovative composition with emotional impact.
This was mainly managed due to the contrast between different parts of the house. On the one hand, the new generous structure with its transparent wideness opposes the already existent house from the 1950’s. On the other hand, the high glass facade creates a smooth transition between backyard and interior zone. This soft mergence also contributes to the emotional bond between house and inhabitants.
In the inner area, ceiling high built-in cupboards give invisible storage space without impacting the visual wideness. The choice of colors also represents modesty making the light tones of white on walls and ceiling reflect the day light and make the room appear bright and friendly – even if the weather outside is not perfect.
Due to its two dimensional effect, the American cherry parquet also emanates peace and generous space. Furthermore, the soft tone grounds the whole room and provides personal comfort.
Another main element was realized through the lighting system. Aside from the intentionally exposed hanging lamp above the dining table which gives the impression of a glowing planet, all illuminants are integrated into the ceiling in straight lines in order to make them visible only if turned on.
Lastly, some personal preciosities such as images or furniture items that were collected over the years, round up the room’s overall picture.
By this combination of modest minimalism and the innovative accentuation of certain core elements,
an aesthetical basis for harmonious living is created in this private home.
