Parkside House. Rhineland. In progress

Parkside House. Rhineland

The »Parkside House« is nestled within a 2,500 m² plot on the edge of a 19th-century historic landscape park in the Rhineland, uniting architecture, interior design, and landscape design into a harmonious ensemble.
With its expansive lawns, solitary trees and gravel-covered pathways, it integrates sensitively into the context of the adjacent park and contributes to strengthening the cultural identity of the site.

The single-storey, barrier-free main building is arranged as a circular segment around a landscaped centre along the park axis. Toward the neighboring properties, it presents a discreet, private character through its closed wooden louver façade. This is structured by a recessed entrance, floor-to-ceiling openings,

and a continuous clerestory running behind the louvers.

On the side facing the park, the building opens up with full-height glazing and large sliding elements. At both ends, the flat roof extends into terrace canopies that provide shade and shelter from rain while simultaneously expanding the interior space. A threshold-free transition blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, allowing the surrounding nature to be experienced as part of everyday life.

A set of steps leads down to the adjoining pool area with its surrounding terrace, which is framed by a flexible secondary building. This annex can serve as a living space, pool house with fitness area or office and reflects the form and materiality of the main house.

Bright, warm natural tones such as white, sand and taupe define the atmosphere both inside and out. Resource efficient, low emission and durable materials are used throughout: natural stone, wool felt, linen, cotton, undyed natural hides and leather form a reduced, sustainable material palette for the interiors. A natural lime-plaster floor continues seamlessly onto the interior walls and is complemented outdoors by European limestone in matching tones. This creates a cohesive, calming appearance, reinforced by the consistent design language of the custom interior fittings and durable furniture pieces.

The construction of the »Parkside House«

is designed to be energy-efficient.

The integration of renewable energy sources further reduces its energy demand. Green roofs, a thoughtful water management system with rainwater harvesting and water-saving technology complement this approach.

The building ensemble is conceived across its entire life cycle – from construction and operation to maintenance and even potential dismantling. It follows the principle of adaptive living, allowing residents to easily adjust it to their different life stages thanks to its flexible building structure.

Natural lighting on all sides and careful ventilation create a healthy indoor climate, while balanced acoustics and pleasant lighting conditions promote comfort and well-being.

The result is a living environment that conveys both a sense of security and openness – sustainable, aesthetic and full of future perspectives.
